About the company

4 questions

Are you union or non-union?

Non-union. We bid at prevailing wages where contracts require it, and eligible employees get health, vision and dental insurance, sick time and paid time off.

Are you a franchise or a public company?

Neither. United Facilities Group has been privately and family-owned since Al Cuevas founded it in Santa Clara in 1998. That is what lets us set the standard ourselves and keep the same people on your account.

Is UFG a minority-owned business?

Yes. UFG is a certified Minority Business Enterprise. Women hold senior roles in sales, operations and human resources, and supervisors and managers are promoted from within.

How long have you been in business?

28 years. The company was founded in 1998; the founder's first cleaning job was in 1987.

Coverage and services

What areas do you cover?

The Bay Area (South Bay, San Francisco and the Peninsula, East Bay), Sacramento, Santa Cruz and the Monterey Peninsula, and the Central Valley around Fresno, Stockton and Modesto. Offices in Santa Clara and Monterey.

Which services do you offer?

Janitorial, building maintenance management, facilities management and landscaping, plus facilities staffing, temporary staffing and hospital surge support.

Do you use subcontractors?

Only for specialised tasks outside our in-house trades, such as licensed electrical panel work or roofing, and only partners we have worked with for years. They appear on the same work-order portal as our own crews.

Can you start with one building and add more?

Yes. Multi-site clients get one account manager per region and a combined quarterly review.

The contract and the crew

5 questions

How is a quote put together?

A site walk, then a written scope by area and frequency, a schedule and a price. You also get the name of the account manager who would run it. Quotes come within one business day of the walk for most sites.

Who supervises the crew?

A coach, UFG's word for a working supervisor, on every shift. Coaches are promoted from the crew and train new hires on site.

How do you check quality?

A weekly site audit by your account manager on a checklist, with the report sent to you; misses go to the coach and are closed in the work-order portal; a quarterly business review goes through scores and tickets with you.

What is in the work-order portal?

Work in progress, scheduled tasks, completed tasks with dates, your open requests and quotes for extra work.

What happens if we are not satisfied?

Tell your account manager or call the office. We fix it, and if the scope was wrong we change the scope. The quality assurance page sets out how.
